The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe,
yesterday, at a press conference in Abuja, threatened to institute legal
action against a non -governmental organisation, Anti Corruption
Network; headed by a former member of the House of Representatives Dino
Melaye, for daring to tarnish his image and that of the Minister of
Finance over alleged fraud of N29bn on non-existent projects awarded to
companies.
He described the executives of the NGO as suffering from adulthood
madness and recklessness. “He’s a misfit to the organisation he’s
representing. He shouldn’t be talking about transparency. He’s looking
for where people will compromise with him”, Orubebe said.
Orubebe maintained that Dino Melaye’s allegations was an indictment
on his person and that the former lawmaker should be prepared to meet
him in court over the matter.
While harping that his name (Orubebe), represents integrity and one
who cannot compromise, the minister, said that Dino Melaye was a
political tout who had no integrity. He insisted that his administration
will not tolerate any act of unwarranted blackmail, hence, his decision
to head to Court.
Elder Orubebe who received the news of the allegations far away in
Calabar , returned back to Abuja , Tuesday, to describe it as one
lacking in fact and sponsored by a political tout, whom he was not ready
to patronise, while claiming that his ministry’s performance level in
the Niger Delta region stands at 96 per cent.
He noted that they have judiciously used funds made available to the ministry since 2009 when it was created.
“There is nothing like rot in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, as
far as finance and contract awards and implementation is concerned.
We deal with files not with contractors. There is sanity in my
ministry. We will never record any case of fraud. This is because we
have very transparent and sincere workforce”, he stated.
