GUNMEN suspected to be armed robbers yesterday stormed the female hostel of Paul University, Awka, carting away undisclosed amount of cash, phones and other valuable items.
A source said the armed gang who arrived the premises in the early hours of Wednesday, first released warning gunshots into the air to scare security operatives nearby, before attacking the female hostel, as they forcefully smashed doors.
The source stated that the gang after jumping over the compound fence, entered the hall of residence, and started robbing the students, even as many scampered for safety.
He said at the end of the operation, the gunmen escaped with their loot, leaving the students dazed, adding that no life was lost.
The University’s Public Relations Officer, Ikechukwu Abana, who confirmed the incident, said efforts were being made to beef up security.
